An internship in industry is a great way to see how a company works. But our Retail Management internship provides so much more. Over the programme, you’ll experience real responsibility. In fact, fast rotations across store and office environments will give you a breathtaking snapshot of our business and the skills you need to succeed. What will you do when you’re handed the keys and told: “You’re in charge”? Well, it’s time to find out.

Day One

Welcome to Aldi! You'll sign your contract and meet the Store Operations Director who will take you through your induction.

Weeks 1-2

The Area Manager will walk you through our fast-moving operation and why we’re doing so well in the marketplace.

Weeks 3-13

Time to get stuck in. You'll stack shelves, serve customers and shadow the Store Manager. You'll also work alongside the Area Manager, demonstrating your skills and seeing what goes into multi-site management.

Weeks 15-22

You’ll take on the role of an operational Assistant Store Manager. This is your time to develop your management skills and see how things need to be run in such a fast-paced team environment.

Feet up and relax. You deserve it.

Weeks 24-30

Your task completion and leadership will be reviewed, so this is a chance to show us how far you've come already.

Holiday time already? Time flies at Aldi, particularly when you’re learning so much.

Week 32-34

You'll be back shadowing the Area Manager. It's a great chance to get even more valuable insights and get some experience alongside the very best.

Week 35-40

You'll spend a week in Head Office, which will be an invaluable part of your training. You'll then put all your learnings to good use by working on an exciting project brief. This is one of the most rewarding and important parts of your journey. And you'll see your work have a long-lasting impact on regional (or even national) decisions.

You'll be out and about with an Area Manager for a week, experiencing their day and all the different skills you need to do a great job.

Kick back on another holiday as you reflect on how much you’ve learned and experienced so far.

You’ll focus on your project work, You'll show us how you can apply your knowledge in different business situations and present your ideas to the Directors.

FAQs

The Retail Management Internship is available to students who are required to undergo an Internship Programme as part of their course. If your course has a required Internship Programme element, you are eligible to apply.

Possibly, but only usually within your chosen region. We’re a fast-growing business so it’s important to have a flexible, understanding approach.

An average working week will be 45 hours. this will be spread over 5 days and may include weekend and evening work.

Your role will cover various aspects of in-store training, head office training and project work. We'll need you to travel between locations, but travel expenses will of course be reimbursed.

If, after graduating, you’re considering Aldi as a career choice – and you performed well on the programme – chances are you’ll be invited to apply for a permanent position. Your Direct Leader will need to recommend you first though.

The Aldi Retail Management Internship Programme is aimed toward students who are required to undergo placement as part of their undergraduate course. If you are a Masters Student we would recommend applying for our Graduate Area Manager Programme.

The internships can vary in duration across 6, 9 or 12 months depending on the relevant degree discipline.

Recruitment for the Retail Management Internship Programme takes place according to the relevant third level institutions academic programme. Typically these are around September and January. Once we’ve reached capacity for the year, we will close for applications until the following year.
